Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have once again thwarted an attempted attack by suspected bandits in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering arms and motorcycles during the operation.
The successful intervention, was said to have l followed a distress call from residents of Majebiyu Village, who reported that armed men had stormed the community, firing sporadically, vandalizing properties, and looting motorcycles and other valuables.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops stationed at Tapga Ngasawa Village swiftly responded to the alert and advanced to the area.
“Upon sighting the approaching soldiers, the attackers fled into nearby bushes, likely sustaining gunshot wounds in the process,” the statement noted.

A subsequent search and clearance operation in the area led to the recovery of five locally made (dane) guns and two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift and professional response.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to tracking down illegal weapons and ensuring they are not used to disrupt the peace in Taraba State.
“The 6 Brigade remains committed to ensuring that no illegally acquired weapon is used to destabilize the peace and security of Taraba State and its surrounding communities,” Brigadier General Uwa stated.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
This latest incident highlights the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to secure vulnerable communities and maintain peace across Taraba State.
