President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to the late Dr. Christopher Kolade, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest intellectuals and a man who embodied integrity, patriotism, and selfless leadership.
In a statement issued on Thursday, President Tinubu said he received the news of Dr. Kolade’s death with deep sorrow, noting that the revered diplomat, broadcaster, and corporate icon left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history.
“Dr. Kolade was an unparalleled figure in Nigeria’s business and governance history. His name will forever be associated with excellence, discipline, and ethical leadership,” Tinubu said.
The President praised the late elder statesman’s exceptional record in both the public and private sectors, particularly his groundbreaking contributions to corporate governance and human resources management.
“He was a guardian of our business heritage and a strong pillar in the evolution of corporate ethics. Through his work at Cadbury Nigeria Plc and the Lagos Business School, Dr. Kolade set standards that continue to guide institutions today,” Tinubu stated.
The President described Kolade as “one of the finest Nigerians of his generation, brilliant, upright, and deeply devoted to national development.”

Dr. Kolade served as Chief Executive and later Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc before becoming Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He also distinguished himself as Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and as an education officer during the colonial period.
President Tinubu commended Kolade’s lifelong dedication to transparency, accountability, and good governance, noting that his influence extended beyond the boardroom into the very fabric of public service.
“He was not only a corporate icon but also a patriot who devoted his talents to building systems that promote trust and responsibility,” the President said.
Tinubu also highlighted Dr. Kolade’s humanitarian work through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, particularly his consistent support for sickle cell patients.
“He gave generously of his personal resources to alleviate the suffering of others. That compassion defined his life as much as his intellect did,” the President added.
Describing Kolade’s death as “heart-wrenching,” Tinubu urged Nigerians to celebrate his life as a legacy of virtue and vision.
“Dr. Kolade lived an extraordinary life of purpose and honor. His wisdom, humility, and sense of duty will continue to inspire generations. He was a true Nigerian in every sense, selfless, disciplined, and resolute,” Tinubu declared.
The President offered prayers for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family, colleagues, and the many institutions shaped by his leadership.
“May the Almighty God, whom he served with unwavering faith, grant him eternal rest and console all who mourn this national treasure,” President Tinubu concluded.
