The federal government and the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) met on Wednesday to evaluate the progress of the project and discuss the annual work plan for the next implementation year.
During the federal technical committee meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja, the ACReSAL project team and various stakeholders reaffirmed their dedication to addressing climate change and environmental degradation.
According to a press release from the Communication Unit of ACReSAL, the meeting was attended by permanent secretaries from three implementing ministries, key director generals, directors, and other stakeholders involved in the ACReSAL project from federal ministries, departments, and agencies.
The meeting focused on reviewing the project’s progress and analyzing the annual work plan for the upcoming year.
Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mr. Mahmud Gambari, described the meeting as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s efforts toward environmental sustainability and community resilience.
He stated that “as we face the challenges of climate change, drought, and food insecurity, our shared vision through ACReSAL is turning into tangible action.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, expressed the ministry’s full support for the project’s goals.
He emphasized that “the ACReSAL project aligns seamlessly with our mission to enhance food security through climate-smart agriculture.
“By promoting drought-resistant crops, soil restoration, and improved farming techniques, we are empowering smallholder farmers and building resilience in rural communities.
“Together, we can ensure the sustainability of our agricultural sector in the face of environmental challenges.”
Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr. Richard Philaangwa, underscored the project’s vital role in safeguarding Nigeria’s water ecosystems and enhancing sanitation in semi-arid areas.
