The Super Eagles have arrived in Polokwane, South Africa, ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho set for Friday.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and his coaching staff have reached Polokwane, South Africa, in preparation for Nigeria’s important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
The team’s support staff is also present, with the delegation staying at the Ranch Hotel as they gear up for the critical game.
Team officials report that all 23 selected players are expected to arrive in camp today, traveling directly from their clubs to South Africa.
Some players have already landed in Johannesburg, according to Promise Efoghe, the team’s media officer.
Chelle and his team are encouraged by the strong performances of several key players over the weekend.
Victor Osimhen continued his excellent form for Napoli, scoring the crucial penalty in their UEFA Champions League win against Liverpool.
Newly called-up Akor Adams also received accolades for scoring Sevilla’s fourth goal in their impressive 4-1 victory over Barcelona, which ended the Catalans’ 15-match unbeaten streak.
Adams’ goal was assisted by Chidera Ejuke, showcasing Nigeria’s attacking strength.

However, the coach faces defensive challenges.
Bright Osayi-Samuel is out due to injury, and Felix Agu is uncertain after suffering an ankle injury during Werder Bremen’s Bundesliga match against St. Pauli.
Agu is set to undergo an MRI scan today to assess his condition.
Chelle also has to address a growing disciplinary issue, as several key players, including Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and Stanley Nwabali, are one yellow card away from suspension, which could prevent them from playing in next week’s final group match against Benin Republic in Uyo.
Currently sitting third in Group C, Nigeria trails leaders Benin Republic and South Africa by three points.
With only two matches remaining, a win in Polokwane is crucial to maintain their qualification chances.
The Super Eagles will face Benin in their final qualifier on October 14, following Friday’s match against Lesotho, which kicks off at 5:00 pm (Nigerian time) at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
