As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Teachers’ Day 2025, Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Yahaya, has paid tribute to teachers across the state and the nation, describing them as the bedrock of national development and the driving force behind a progressive education system.
In a goodwill message marking the annual celebration themed: “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession”, Gov. Yahaya highlighted the crucial role teachers play not just as educators, but as partners in shaping the future through shared vision, values, and innovation.
“The theme of this year’s celebration reminds us that education thrives when teachers, policymakers, parents, and communities work together,” the governor stated.
“Teachers are not only transmitters of knowledge, but architects of the minds and aspirations of future generations.”
He emphasized that for education to truly transform lives, it must be built on collaboration among all stakeholders—teachers, government, communities, and families.
“When teachers’ voices are heard, their experiences guide policies, and they are empowered to innovate together, education becomes a tool for lasting change.”
Gov. Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting teachers and revitalizing the education sector through a range of initiatives.
These include teacher training and capacity-building programs, recruitment drives to address workforce gaps, improved school infrastructure, and regular engagement with education stakeholders to promote inclusive decision-making.
“Our administration believes that the classroom is where the future of our state begins. That is why we continue to support teachers with the tools, training, and motivation they need to succeed,” he said.
“We understand that when teachers are empowered, learners thrive, and societies progress.”
He also pointed to the state’s ongoing education reforms such as the revitalization of public schools and provision of modern teaching aids as practical expressions of the government’s belief in shared responsibility for educational outcomes.
