Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has received a comprehensive report that paves the way for sweeping reforms to traditional governance in the state.
The document, submitted by the Committee for the Creation of Additional Emirates, Chiefdoms, and Districts, outlines recommendations for strengthening grassroots administration and expanding traditional institutions.
The report proposes the creation of 13 new Emirates, 2 Chiefdoms, and 111 Districts across Bauchi State, a move Governor Mohammed hailed as a transformative step toward decentralization and inclusive governance.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Governor Mohammed praised the committee’s work as transparent and community-driven.
He emphasized that the reforms align with his administration’s broader agenda to “unbundle” governance, eliminate ungoverned spaces, and deepen the sense of belonging among citizens at the local level.

“This initiative is part of our effort to strengthen traditional institutions as pillars of effective grassroots administration,” the governor stated. “We are committed to implementing the recommendations fairly, ensuring that the aspirations of emerging communities are balanced with the dignity of existing traditional structures.”
The committee, led by Chairman Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, was inaugurated in July 2025 and reviewed 196 memoranda submitted by various communities. Its mandate included assessing the historical, cultural, and administrative justifications for new traditional structures.
Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to equitable implementation of the recommendations, promising all stakeholders including traditional rulers and local communities that their interests would be respected in the reform process.
The report is expected to usher in a new chapter in Bauchi State’s governance, enhancing local representation and reinforcing traditional leadership as a key component of the state’s development framework.
