Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially commissioned the newly upgraded Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kumo, Gombe State, marking a major milestone in the federal government’s healthcare development efforts.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Kumo town, was attended by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and a large crowd of jubilant residents, students, and community leaders who lined the streets to welcome the First Lady.
In her address, Senator Tinubu praised the Gombe State Government under Governor Yahaya for its visionary investment in the health sector, which laid the groundwork for the transformation of the facility into a federal medical center.
“This hospital stands as a testament to what purposeful leadership can achieve. It will not only elevate healthcare delivery in this region but also serves as a symbol of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the well-being of all Nigerians,” she stated.
Senator Tinubu expressed optimism about Gombe’s continued progress and reaffirmed her dedication to addressing the needs of the people, particularly in underserved communities.

The First Lady also underscored the vital role of traditional and religious institutions in national development, urging leaders at all levels to collaborate with the government in fostering peace and driving grassroots development.
Earlier in the day, Senator Tinubu paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Akko, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, at his palace in Kumo. In recognition of her contributions to national development and her visit to the emirate, the Emir conferred on her the honorary traditional title of “Queen of Akko.”
The Emir described the launch of FMC Kumo as a “historic step forward” in healthcare access for the people of Gombe State.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency, applauded President Tinubu for ongoing federal projects in the state and reaffirmed Gombe’s strong support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Gombe remains one of the strongest APC states in Nigeria, and we are fully prepared to back President Tinubu for a second term come 2027,” Hon. Kumo declared.
