The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed claims of political assassinations in the state, describing a recent publication alleging 14 cases between 2022 and 2024 as false, misleading, and unfounded.
The command was reacting to a report credited to one Mr. Salaudeen Hashim and published by a national daily.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the allegations were a product of the writer’s imagination and do not reflect the security realities in Anambra State.
“While the state has recorded some security incidents, these were not targeted political assassinations as mischievously claimed, but attacks by criminal elements masquerading as agitators and other non-state actors,” the statement read.
The command also faulted the report’s mention of Ihiala, Ogbaru, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Onitsha North as high-risk areas for elections, noting that the recently concluded Anambra South Senatorial and state House of Assembly bye-elections were held peacefully in those locations.

According to the police, operations conducted in collaboration with other security agencies have significantly reduced violent crimes in the state, making Anambra “one of the most peaceful states in the South-East.”
It further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has assured residents of the command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged the media to avoid sensational reports capable of inciting fear or misrepresenting the security situation in the state.
The command called on the public to disregard the report and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to sustain peace and security across Anambra State.
