The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kano Zonal Office, has pledged to deepen collaboration with the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, gave the assurance when he hosted the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel at the Commission’s zonal headquarters in Kano. He described the media as a powerful partner in the anti-graft campaign, stressing that journalists play a central role in exposing corruption, raising public awareness, and promoting transparency.
“I want to call upon you to join hands with us in this fight against economic and financial crimes. The doors of the EFCC are fully open for collaboration. If they were closed before, now they are fully open,” Sa’ad declared.
He urged reporters to embrace investigative journalism, verify facts thoroughly, and avoid misinformation. Citing Section 7 of the EFCC Establishment Act 2004, he reminded journalists that both the public and the press are empowered to report suspected economic crimes, even without a written petition.

According to Sa’ad, the Commission is committed not only to investigation and prosecution but also to sensitization and public enlightenment on the dangers of corruption. He welcomed proposals for training sessions and pledged EFCC’s support for workshops aimed at strengthening journalists’ capacity in anti-corruption reporting.
Earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Murtala Adewale, commended the EFCC’s resilience in tackling economic crimes despite numerous challenges. He called for closer synergy between the Commission and the media, particularly in training and retraining programmes to improve reportage in the public interest.
Adewale also highlighted the chapel’s upcoming workshop on “Peace Journalism” and invited the EFCC to participate, emphasizing that strong media-agency collaboration is vital for sustaining Nigeria’s anti-corruption momentum.
