The Kwara State Police Command on Monday confirmed that 12 forest guards were killed when gunmen attacked a community in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement, said that the assault occurred on Sunday in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The police spokesperson stated that the victims had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while four survivors of the deadly attack are receiving medical treatment.

Reacting to the incident, the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, called on the military to eliminate the criminals responsible for the attacks in the area.
He urged residents to remain calm and resist the urge to turn against one another, while also praising the forest guards and local hunters who, despite losing five of their colleagues, managed to neutralize several attackers.
Such incidents are frequent in Nigeria’s northern region, where conflicts often arise between local farmers and herders over scarce land and water resources.
The bodies of the 12 forest guards were discovered by a team of police and members of the National Forest Security Service.
