The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo over his alleged involvement in the abduction of three children in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Thursday, the arrest followed swift intervention by youths of Akwa Village, Ihiala, on the evening of September 23, 2025.

Ikenga disclosed that the suspect and two accomplices, who are currently on the run, conspired to abduct three children aged six, three, and two years respectively.

“Preliminary information reveals that Charles and two others who are currently at large conspired and abducted the three children. Further revelations from the mother of the victims stated that while her children were eating in front of their house, she went into the kitchen to get them more food but returned to find them missing,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson explained that the suspect was apprehended by youths of the community but sustained injuries after being mobbed before officers intervened to rescue him.

While the arrested suspect is in custody, Ikenga added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices and rescue the abducted children to reunite them with their family.

He assured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of children and warned against mob action, urging communities to always hand over suspects to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.
