The Kano State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly posed as a police officer to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
Spokesperson of the command Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the suspect, Nasiru Shitu, from Kofar Waika Quarters in Kano, was apprehended on Sunday evening at Kofar Dawanau while wearing what appeared to be a police uniform.
He said the arrest was made around 5 p.m. following multiple reports of extortion by fake police officers in the area.
According to Kiyawa, preliminary investigations revealed that Shitu is neither a serving police officer nor a member of the Police Special Constabulary.
“He is an impostor who has been masquerading as a police officer to extort unsuspecting members of the public.
