Police arrest 3 suspected kidnappers in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers at different locations in Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state.

Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement on Monday, said on August 26, 2025, the command received a distressing report, over the kidnapping of one Humphrey Wagbara of Igwuruta-Atali.

According to her, operatives of the command, acting in a daring and coordinated operation on September 19, 2025, arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnapping of the victim.

The statement gave the names of the suspects as Hassan Mohammed, from Wandigah Town in Mandagali, Borno State, Bello Abubakar, from Roundabout Maura, Sokoto State, and Yusuf Ahmed, from Hazari Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The statement further said that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple kidnappings in the state.

Among the operations they confessed to have been involved in include the kidnapping of Onwuli Jude and Nwabueze Nchekwube on September 24, 2025, at School Road, Igwuruta-Atali, where they collected a ransom of N6.9 million before killing Nchekwube.

They also kidnapped Mercy Chinyere on September 12, 2025, at the same location, where they also collected a ransom of N3.5 million before releasing her.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include, one G-3 rifle with Breech number 10398, one magazine, and one Itel mobile phone belonging to Humphrey Wagbara, a kidnapped victim.

Other items recovered are three short daggers, one jackknife, and one stainless steel short knife

The statement said the suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional operational weapons.
