One person has died and 76 others have been rescued after a recent airstrike by the air force aimed at eliminating a notorious bandit leader in Katsina State.
The operation focused on a hideout belonging to Babaro, a bandit leader linked to a violent attack in the Malumfashi area.
A statement from Nasir Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, said the airstrike took place at Pauwa Hill in Kankara Local Government Area.
During this mission, which occurred between 6 pm and 7 pm, 76 abducted individuals, including women and children, were rescued from Babaro’s base, known for causing fear in nearby communities.
The statement noted that all those kidnapped in the recent attack at Gidan Mantau were among those saved.
“Tragically, the rescue effort was marred by the death of one child during the incident,” the statement said.
Mu’azu referred to the operation as a major step forward in the fight against crime in Katsina State, emphasizing that it is part of a larger plan to take down criminal networks and put an end to the violence that has affected the lives of many innocent people.

They reiterated their commitment to providing support, including resources and information sharing, until banditry is completely eliminated.
Citizens were also encouraged to stay alert and share information that could help security forces as they continue their efforts to reclaim towns and communities from criminal groups.
