Officials in Katsina State have announced that 62 people who had been kidnapped managed to escape after an air strike targeted the hideout of a notorious gang leader, Muhammadu Fulani, in the Danmusa area of the state.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, disclosed this information in a statement on Monday.
He said the air strike was carried out by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in a location near the border with Zamfara State.
Mu’azu disclosed that out of the 62 victims who escaped, 12 are currently receiving medical care at the Matazu General Hospital, while another 16 are getting treatment at a nearby military base.
The air raid, which took place on Saturday afternoon, prompted the bandits to abandon their base, allowing many captives to flee.
Interviews with the rescued individuals indicated that the attack caused the gang to disperse, giving the victims a chance to escape in various directions.

Most of the kidnapped individuals had been taken from Sayaya Village during a nighttime raid by Fulani’s gang back on August 11, 2025.
This group has been causing trouble in the Matazu, Kankia, Dutsinma, and parts of Kano State.
In response to the situation, the state government has sent additional military resources to help restore peace in the affected communities.
The commissioner assured the families of the rescued victims that the government is committed to reuniting them with their loved ones once the necessary health checks are completed.
