The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended six suspects for alleged theft, criminal trespass, and burglary in Damaturu, the state capital. This operation, part of a wider crackdown on crime, has stirred significant local interest.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrests in a statement, highlighting the efforts of Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed, who launched a stakeout to address escalating incidents of shoplifting, theft, and break-ins across both public and private properties.

The arrests follow a complaint from Mal. Musa Alh Audu, a resident of the Nayi-Nawa Ward, who reported a theft of tricycle parts from his area. Police acted swiftly, leading to the capture of six individuals: Abubakar Ahmed (19), Hassan Musa (19), Shayibu Adamu (24), Ahmed Ismail (22), Babagana Lawan (25), and Gambo Daiyyabu (52).

During the arrest, authorities recovered multiple stolen items, including 13 tricycle tires, six windshields, four crates of Coca-Cola bottles, two bicycles, and a toolbox. Police sources report that all six suspects have confessed to their involvement in these crimes and are currently cooperating with the investigation.

Commissioner Garba Ahmed praised the community for their vigilance and urged residents to remain proactive in reporting suspicious activities. “Our combined efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety of our communities,” he stated.
