Terror returned to the quiet communities of Banga and Larh in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State on April 15, 2025, as Boko Haram insurgents launched fresh attacks that led to the death of six people, and left widespread fear in its wake.
According to local sources, the attack on Banga Village claimed three people. Two men were shot dead by the insurgents, while a woman died in the ensuing chaos.
A vigilante also lost his life when a bomb detonated during an attempt to secure the area. In nearby Larh Village, two more residents were killed, although details surrounding their deaths remain unclear.
Adding to the horror, a young boy from the area remains missing. His phone continues to ring without response, fueling fears of a possible abduction, a tactic frequently used by the insurgent group.
“We are worried sick,” a resident said. “We just want him back.”
The insurgents also targeted security forces. A police van from Garaha stationed in Banga was destroyed by an explosive device. Thankfully, the officers had evacuated the vehicle before the blast, escaping unharmed.
An additional undetonated bomb was later discovered in the area, prompting calls for bomb disposal experts to be urgently deployed.
“This is heartbreaking,” a community member said anonymously. “We’re losing our people to these monsters, and now even our protectors are being targeted.”

The attack highlights the continued threat posed by Boko Haram, despite the federal government’s claims of significant progress in the fight against insurgency.
The incident comes just two months after a similar assault on Kwapre and neighboring villages in the same local government area, underscoring the group’s resilience.
Residents expressed deep frustration at the inadequate security presence in their communities.
“We feel abandoned,” one villager lamented. “These attacks keep happening, and we’re left to fend for ourselves.”
As of press time, neither the military nor the police had issued an official statement.
However, sources confirmed that troops stationed nearby responded to the attack, though they arrived after the assault had ended.
