The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that five persons lost their lives due to a military-grade explosive.
The tragic event took place on Saturday at a scrap collection company situated along the Eastern By-pass.
According to the police, the vehicle involved was traveling from Yobe State when the explosion occurred.
In a statement, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori mentioned that he was alerted to an emergency explosion in the area.
Upon his arrival, he witnessed the aftermath of the explosion.
“It was a military EOD personnel. A military-grade bomb detonated. Fifteen people were injured and transported to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” he stated.

He further noted that upon reaching the hospital, five individuals were confirmed deceased, while ten others were receiving medical care.
The police commissioner indicated that preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle originated from Yobe State and mentioned that although, the investigation is ongoing, he was informed that the truck carrying the bomb came from Yobe state.
Bakori promised to provide further details as the investigation progresses.
