The lawmakers who have defected to the APC, include Rep. Manuchim Umezuruike, representing Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency; Rep. Boniface Emerengwa from Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency; Rep. Awake-Inombek Abiante for Andoni/Opobo Federal Constituency; and Rep. Boma Goodhead, representing Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.

Political tensions in the state have been high since March 18, when President Tinubu imposed emergency rule in Rivers due to ongoing instability.
The declaration resulted in the suspension of Gov. Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly for six months.
However, the emergency rule was lifted on September 17, 2025.
