Four Nigerian students studying at De Montfort University in Leicester City, England, have been sentenced to varying prison terms after being found guilty of violent disorder involving weapons.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of November 4, 2021, on New Park Street, Leicester, escalated from a verbal dispute to a violent confrontation. Weapons including knives, a baseball bat, and a crutch were used in the altercation, leaving an 18-year-old man with stab wounds requiring hospital treatment.
Leicester City Police conducted a thorough investigation, employing CCTV analysis, phone records, and public appeals for information to identify the perpetrators. The suspects were arrested and charged following the attack. After a six-week trial that concluded in October 2024, the students were sentenced on November 14, 2024.
– Destiny Ojo, 21, received a seven-year sentence for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and grievous bodily harm with intent.
– Habib Lawal, 21, was sentenced to five years for similar charges.
– Ridwanulahi Raheem, 21, was sentenced to three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.
– Joshua Davies-Ero, 21, received a two-year sentence for violent disorder.
A fifth suspect, Justin Asamoah, 22, who previously pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article, is scheduled for sentencing on November 22, 2024.

The violence erupted when the group, after socializing in Leicester city center, encountered another group. A verbal altercation escalated into physical violence. Surveillance footage showed the defendants armed: Davies-Ero with a crutch, Ojo with a baseball bat, Lawal with a knife, and Raheem with a large blade.
The victim, thrown to the ground and stabbed four times, was rushed to the hospital and later discharged. Police praised the victim’s survival, emphasizing the grave dangers of violent behavior.
Detective Constable Sean Downey, who led the investigation, highlighted the risks posed by such incidents:
“This incident demonstrates the extreme dangers of violent disorder. It is fortunate that no further injuries occurred, but this could have ended far worse. Thanks to the collective effort of our team and the public’s cooperation, we’ve ensured these individuals face justice.”
The case has drawn significant attention online and in the Leicester community. Authorities continue urging the public to assist law enforcement in identifying and preventing such violent incidents.
