No fewer than four persons are feared dead on Monday afternoon after operatives of ‘Operation Sweep’ in Delta State engaged suspected internet fraudsters, popularly called ‘Yahoo’ boys in a hot chase that led to a tragic accident along the popular Oveto Junction in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
Eyewitnesses said the ‘Yahoo’ boys, cruising a Mercedes-Benz GLK along the Agbarha–Warri Expressway were driving at high speed when operatives of ‘Operation Sweep’ began chasing them.
In the process, the fleeing vehicle rammed into a commercial tricycle opposite a branch of the First Bank on the expressway, causing severe damage.
The operatives reportedly turned back after the crash, while the GLK continued its reckless drive, allegedly knocking down several pedestrians near Union Bank.

Unconfirmed reports say at least four people lost their lives in the incident.
The situation sparked tension in the area as the occupants of the vehicle attempted to escape.
Angry residents pursued them and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, while the driver fled.
The crowd was prevented from lynching the suspect by other community members, who locked him in a nearby shop until police arrived to take him into custody.
Residents have since condemned the conduct of the ‘Operation Sweep’ agents, accusing the security outfit of endangering innocent lives instead of focusing on criminals such as kidnappers and armed robbers.
They called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently review or disband the Ozighe-led ‘Operation Sweep’ team to prevent further loss of lives, warning that the public may soon resort to self-help if the trend continues.
