The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed four deaths following three separate incidents that unfolded across the state on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The cases, recorded in Nassarawa, Bichi and Danbatta, drew a swift response from emergency teams but ended in tragedy.
The first incident occurred at Badawa Layin Day by Day in Nassarawa Local Government Area, where a residential structure measuring twenty-five by twenty feet caught fire late in the morning. Firefighters from the Headquarters Emergency Response Unit reached the scene shortly before noon and pulled a ten-year-old girl from the burning room. She was unresponsive and later confirmed dead before being released to her parents.
Another incident followed in Badume Kanawa Village in Bichi Local Government Area. Three men died while attempting to re-dig a well. According to the Fire Service spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Yusif, the rope being used during the work snapped, causing sixty-five-year-old Saidu Gada to fall in. His son, twenty-year-old Sani Isyaku, climbed in to help but became trapped. A third man, sixty-year-old Yakubu Abdullahi, also tried to rescue them and met the same fate. Firefighters recovered all three, but they were confirmed dead at the scene before being handed over to the police division in Badume.

The third case was reported in Danbatta Local Government Area where ten-year-old Hassan Haruna fell into a well at Layin Abba Dabo. Firefighters from the Danbatta station retrieved him in an unconscious state, though he was later confirmed dead and released to his father.
Yusif added that the Director of the Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to avoid entering wells during emergencies, warning that such actions often turn a single accident into a fatal chain of events. He encouraged communities to contact emergency responders without delay so that trained personnel can manage dangerous situations and reduce the risk of further loss of life.
