A 300-level student of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, Niger State, identified as Kelvin Danlami, has committed suicide after losing the rent money entrusted to him to gambling.
Danlami, a student of the department of computer science, took his life on Monday after gambling away funds that had been entrusted to him for rent payment.
Reacting to the incident, a fellow student, Musa Abdullahi, expressed grief in a condolence message, cautioning young people against the dangers of gambling and the lure of quick money.

“We lost a promising 300-level computer science student who mismanaged rent money due to gambling.
“This is a painful reminder for young people to stay away from anything that promises fast money through the wrong means,” he said, while he prayed for strength for the deceased’s family.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university also issued an official condolence message signed by its General Secretary, Aliyu Abubakar, describing the death as a tragic loss to the institution.
“The Students’ Union Government received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Kelvin Danlami, a 300-level student of the department of computer science.
“His demise is an irreplaceable loss to his family, department, and the entire university community,” the statement read.
The union extended its sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, praying for comfort and strength for all those affected.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said the matter was reported to the police, and investigations had commenced.
“On January 19, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., information was received that a student of IBB University, Lapai, Kelvin Danlami, was found dead in his room. The case is under investigation,” Abiodun said.
