Three groups of young innovators have emerged winners in the North-West region of the GITEX Nigeria competition to participate at the finals in Lagos.
The winners, Northino edu-tech (the education-technology platform), Tavestack (the AI powered productivity platform) and Maskido edu-tech (the education-technology platform) emerged from 20 others who had opportunities to showcase their innovations at the regionals held in Kano recently.
The nationwide start up pitching event was organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA), through the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), to uncover, engage, and spotlight the most promising start ups showcasing talent, innovation and technology to solve local problems in the area of technology, health, agriculture among others with global opportunities.
Addressing participants from Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Jigawa States, the NITDA North-West Zonal Coordinator, Muhammad Salihu, said the zonal event offers selected start ups a chance to pitch live before ecosystem leaders, investors, policymakers, and media, noting that, winners earn sponsored spots to exhibit at the GITEX Nigeria Start up Festival in Lagos.
He explained that, the start up festival will hold in September, alongside the main tech expo at the Landmark Centre in Lagos, where they will connect with global investors and facilitate access to international capital and markets.

He said: “the power of local innovation solutions are not only relevant locally but have the potential to scale globally.”
He also called on innovators, investors, and policymakers to collaborate in co-creating Africa’s digital future.
In her remarks, ONDI National Coordinator, Victoria Fagunmi, who was represented by Amina Katagum, said her office supports all the start ups innovator’s pitching to be part of Gitex Nigeria finals in Lagos.
“The GITEX roadshow is more than an event. It is a gateway to a future where Nigerian solutions solve African problems.
“A future where our youth are not just job seekers, but job creators. A future where every Nigerian child, regardless of background or location, has access to digital tools, networks, and markets,” she stated.
