Three persons have reportedly died in a road accident in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, just as the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Mr. Edward Odiete has cautioned drivers against reckless driving.
Odiete gave the warning following a crash at Etim Ekpo Roundabout, when a truck rammed into a building resulting in the death of three persons.
The FRSC sector commander stated that investigation into the accident, revealed that the driver of the truck was reckless and did not obey traffic rules and regulations leading to the accident.
He said that when the report of the incident was received, the FRSC operatives mobilised and moved over to the scene, adding that upon arrival at the crash scene, the injured ones were moved to nearby hospitals for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.
“A fatal crash occurred on November 11 at Etim Ekpo Roundabout by 1930hrs. The lone crash involved a Howo truck that ran into structures at the roundabout.

“One female and two male adults were confirmed dead, while others sustained injuries of various degrees.
“When inquiry was made as to the cause of the crash, it was gathered that the causal factor to the crash was reckless driving that resulted in loss of control, according to eyewitnesses.
“After evacuation of the victims, the road was cleared of the wreckages to enable the free-flow of traffic,” Odiete said.
The sector commander further stressed, that the incident could have been avoided if the driver observed certain degree of safety measures and adhered strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
He emphasised the need for safety consciousness among road users and enjoined all road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid road carnage and it’s attendant loss of lives and property.
