Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has stirred public debate after stating that Nigeria is better today than it was in the past.
The award-winning singer made the remarks during an interview, where he expressed optimism about the country’s progress despite ongoing economic and security concerns.
According to him, Nigeria has recorded noticeable improvements over the years, even though development remains gradual and incomplete. He said he remains committed to projecting a positive image of the country both at home and abroad.
“We are better off than many years ago. It is still a work in progress, but I will continue to play my part and try to make a difference,” he said.
2Baba also described himself as a self-appointed ambassador of Nigeria, pledging to represent the country positively on the global stage.
His comments, however, have generated mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians questioning his assessment. Critics argue that persistent challenges such as insecurity, inflation, and rising cost of living undermine claims of meaningful progress.

Others, however, agree that while difficulties remain, Nigeria has made incremental gains in certain sectors, including technology, entertainment, and infrastructure.
The debate has since expanded into a broader conversation about Nigeria’s development path, with citizens divided over whether the country is advancing or facing deeper structural challenges.
Analysts note that such public discourse reflects growing public engagement with governance and national performance, especially as the country approaches another election cycle.
