Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already in high-level talks with prominent political figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as part of its strategy for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Mohammed disclosed that PDP governors have been holding discreet discussions with “celebrated politicians” across party lines, stressing that the opposition party is determined to field a strong candidate capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
When asked specifically about Peter Obi, the Bauchi governor confirmed ongoing consultations. “Have you not seen him in boats several times? Have you not seen him with me? He’s my brother, my friend. And of course, he’s one of the most celebrated politicians too. Within the coalition or outside it, we are not sleeping, only that we don’t make noise,” Mohammed said.
He also confirmed that he had personally spoken with former President Jonathan about a possible comeback, recalling that he once promised to step aside if Jonathan decided to recontest under the PDP platform. “I was the first person to say that if he runs, I will not run. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I said we should just go and sleep,” he noted.

Mohammed further hinted that former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, could also make a political return to the PDP, saying, “Amaechi is free to come back if he wants to. I have spoken to so many people, not just him or Obi. These are only the key people I mentioned.”
The governor emphasized that the PDP is casting a wide net ahead of 2027, reaching out quietly to influential politicians across the country who could strengthen the party’s chances. “PDP is open to all those celebrated politicians who can come and add value to our presidential drive in 2027,” he declared.
With the 2027 general elections gradually taking shape, Mohammed’s comments have stirred intense political debate, raising questions about whether the PDP might witness the return of Jonathan, a new alliance with Obi, or the comeback of Amaechi in its quest to reclaim power from the ruling APC.
