In matters of leadership and public trust, credibility is built on consistency and the courage to reject hypocrisy, even when it wears the face of friendship.

Honesty is the bedrock that shapes our very identity. Consequently, I am firmly convinced that life’s true worth lies in our decency, uprightness, and dignity. These values are prerequisites that should guide our every action. They are the foundation upon which we should seek to live honourably, respect others, and contribute meaningfully to the world around us.

There are three important qualities to look for in a person: intelligence, energy, and integrity, said Warren Buffet. But he equally warned that if a person lacks integrity, then the first two qualities are irrelevant. Integrity is not a posture, but a principle that calls us to be honest in our thoughts, courageous in our decisions, and humble in our service. Integrity anchors our character. In both private and public life, we must guard it fiercely because with its loss comes also the loss of self-respect.

Currently the majority of Nigerian politicians are desperadoes ready to sell anyone for five pence just to grab power or to sustain political positions. They are kleptocrats, siphoning nation’s wealth. They have no integrity; their loyalty rises and falls with whoever fattens their pockets the most. Hence the political arena presently is like a jungle and a den of crocodiles where loyalty is scarce and personal ambition often outweighs national interest.

In respect to the above, the purported plan for former President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to run in the 2027 presidential election under PDP – allegedly orchestrated by his political foes but masked as advice from friends – may seem attractive at first glance. Yet, no matter how captivating it appears or how artfully it is presented, it remains what it truly is: the venom of a scorpion, which he must never dare to taste. And if the rumour reflects an idea he has already entertained, I earnestly urge him to discard it entirely.

With his high esteemed image internationally, he cannot afford to blunder into the trap, if he does, it could be the greatest mistake in his entire political career and the gravest miscalculation of his life. By every measure of political reasoning, it is a mirage – a dangerous illusion and a fantasy that can only lead to tragedy. Whoever advances or promotes this concept acts not out of loyalty or goodwill, but from motives soaked in deception – or mildly, the person is ignorant of Nigeria’s political terrain. From every angle of a holistic approach, this is so deadly beneath its deceptive allure. Jonathan must avoid being stung by this scorpion. Should he dare it, as though consumed by desperation, it would be nothing short of a political catastrophe, an act of self-destruction and a betrayal of the very ideals that once defined him.

This alarm can never be overemphasized, therefore, let me rephrase that the 2027 presidential election being attractively packaged for Jonathan is fraught with peril, much like the tone of a bitter kola – which may appear pleasant yet remains unmistakably bitter in taste. It is a hatchet job, meticulously engineered by his political foes. The underlying motives and potential consequences demand his utmost vigilance and scrutiny.

Analytical evidence and political insights underline the harsh truth. His political rivals see his anticipated downfall – which they are fantastically plotting now – as a historic opportunity, while the legacy he painstakingly built over the years is at risk of being shattered. He is hereby forewarned that his antagonists are waiting, not to celebrate his success, but to harvest from his ruin, pain, agony, and regrets – as they hover in the shadows, indirectly pushing him gently forward, they are waiting for the slightest stumble to feast on the wreckage of his misadventure.

Those who are genuinely close to him, and who claim to love him, should urgently draw his attention to the reality that this so-called offer bears all the marks of a Greek gift – swiftly and smartly concealed with ulterior motives and buried in 2027 presidential election by his adversaries. It is a slippery path and a very dangerous venture. He should retreat before the consequences become irreversible. He did admit that the tragedy of kidnapped Chibok girls left indelible scar in his life. However, the political misstep looming before him could inflict a far more serious and possibly irredeemable blow. Under which political banner does he hope to pull off such a colossal – near if not impossible – mission against President Tinubu? PDP?

An orphan who has never been slapped and shamed in the marketplace will, naively, believe that everyone in the crowd is a family member.

It is easier for a palm kernel to pass through the eyes of a needle than for peace to return in PDP. Furthermore, wrong diagnoses usually lead to wrong treatments that often lead to death. Jonathan Sir, the biter truth is that PDP is currently an empty house full of political crocodiles and scorpions. It will continue to have internal crises till the 2027 election is over, because some people who consider themselves political buffaloes predesigned it. They cannot afford to lose grip of being in control and have sold the soul of PDP to APC for their personal political interests. The party is their negotiating power and their gateway to Aso Rock. Therefore, there is no amount of genuine reconciliation and peace effort that will work, for it is easier to wake someone who is sleeping than wake one pretending to be sleeping. Is this the party you wish to use to pursue the 2027 mirage against President Tinubu? How?

If a snake stops acting like a snake, children might mistake it for a rope and use it to tie up firewood. Jonathan Sir, you are a respected senior citizen. Those orchestrating this remain hidden in the shadows, yet they stand spiritually exposed. Their hands mimic Jacob’s, but the voice that betrays them is unmistakably Esau’s. Pull this monkey’s hand out of the soup now, before it transforms into a human hand. Your prolonged silence only undermines the noble image you have built over the years.

Are you contesting the 2027 presidential election?
