The political atmosphere in Delta State took a dramatic turn on Sunday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing both leaders as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement, which has stirred intense political discussions statewide, was made during a high-profile APC Stakeholders Meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba. The event drew an impressive lineup of party stalwarts, including ministers, senators, serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, local government chairmen, and influential figures across Delta’s three senatorial districts.

The motion, moved by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and seconded by Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, received unanimous approval from the gathering. Keyamo praised President Tinubu’s “bold reforms and visionary governance,” citing the fuel subsidy removal as a major fiscal breakthrough that has redirected national resources to critical infrastructure.

“Just two days ago, Mr. President approved one billion dollars for the revival of the Warri Port and other major projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the Lagos Airport modernization,” Keyamo said. “These are results of the President’s prudent management and courage to take difficult but necessary economic decisions.”

He also lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership style and the infrastructural revolution unfolding across Delta State. According to him, the governor’s performance has “redefined governance in the South-South.”

In seconding the motion, Victor Ochei described Tinubu and Oborevwori as “symbols of inclusive leadership and progress,” asserting that the people of Delta and the South-South “stand firmly behind their vision for a renewed Nigeria and a transformed Delta State.”

Responding to the endorsement, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the APC stakeholders, promising to deepen his administration’s development agenda. “I thank you for your confidence in us and for adopting us as sole candidates for 2027. The APC is growing stronger daily, and more governors will join us before November ends,” he said.

The governor applauded President Tinubu as “a leader who rewards loyalty and results,” stressing that political commitment must reflect in the ballot. “In 2027, our votes will be our report card. Loyalty, not hypocrisy, will determine reward,” he warned, hinting at plans to expose members who “benefited without contributing” to the party’s success in past elections.

Oborevwori outlined major projects under his administration, including the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction flyover, the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the forthcoming Warri-Sapele Road rehabilitation, adding that Delta remains the only state where contractors are paid 40 percent mobilization upfront without debt.

Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who attended the event, hailed the April 28, 2025 mass defection into the APC as a “turning point in Delta politics.” According to him, joining the APC has united the political base of the state, positioning it for a sweeping victory in 2027.

APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, declared that Governor Oborevwori’s performance had made the Delta APC “unstoppable,” warning that any challenger “would meet a brick wall.” Leaders across senatorial zones echoed similar confidence, including Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Chief Adizue Eluaka, and Austin Oribioye, who assured total party unity.

National Assembly members; Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Hon. Nicholas Mutu, jointly declared that “there is no vacancy till 2031,” pledging continued loyalty to both Tinubu and Oborevwori.

Prominent Delta political figures such as Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, and Senator James Manager also backed the endorsement, describing it as a “renewed mandate for stability and continuity.”

Women and youth representatives, led by Hon. Stella Okotete and Hon. Dagidi Andaye, called for greater inclusion, noting that women make up “over half of Nigeria’s electorate.”

As the meeting ended in a jubilant mood, chants of “APC! Progress!” filled the hall, signaling what party insiders describe as “the dawn of a united front” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
