The All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, signalling an early and united push toward the 2027 general election.

The endorsement was sealed on Tuesday at a high level stakeholders meeting of the party held at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa and convened by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri. The motion backing President Tinubu’s re-election was moved by the Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Dr. Konbowei Benson, and seconded by former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and ex-Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi.

The meeting drew key figures within the APC, including Chairman of the party’s caretaker committee in the state, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, Senator representing Bayelsa East, Chief Benson Agadaga, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Sam Ogbuku, and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare. Also present was the APC National Working Committee ex-officio member for the South South, Hon. Godbless Diriware.

It was the first expanded stakeholders meeting convened by Governor Diri since he emerged as leader of the party in the state in October 2025, and it set the tone for reconciliation and strategic alignment ahead of future elections.

Addressing party members, Governor Diri expressed satisfaction that the Bayelsa APC had closed ranks to work as one family, with a clear resolve to secure President Tinubu’s return to office in 2027. He urged members to embrace forgiveness, humility, and internal cohesion, warning against bitterness and divisive politics that could undermine the party’s progress.

The governor called for discipline and restraint among party faithful, advising those nursing political ambitions for 2027 to put them aside for now and focus on strengthening the party and supporting the President.

He said the APC must truly live up to its progressive ideals, describing political parties as vehicles for development rather than platforms for personal rivalry. According to him, the overriding goal of the party at this stage should be the re-election of President Tinubu.

In his remarks, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri said the meeting marked a turning point for the APC in Bayelsa, noting that the party now shared a common and indivisible objective to win all elective positions in the state in 2027. He described the renewed unity as critical to delivering results at the polls.

Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, former APC governorship candidate David Lyon, and Prince Ebitimi Amgbare commended Governor Diri for what they described as political maturity and inclusive leadership, expressing confidence that his approach would strengthen the party’s electoral chances.

APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, said the meeting was significant in healing long standing divisions within the party, noting that the APC in Bayelsa had suffered fragmentation for more than a decade. He added that the gathering also aimed to mobilise members to participate actively in the party’s electronic membership registration exercise to ensure credible voter data ahead of 2027.

The meeting observed a minute of silence in honour of former Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the Fifth National Assembly, Senator John Brambaifa, who passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Abuja.
