Taraba State is set to host the highly anticipated 2024 North East Development Commission (NEDC) Secondary Schools Sports Tournament, with all arrangements now finalized, according to Dr. Sam Timothy, Managing Director of Skeb Sports and Event Resources Limited.
The event, themed “Promoting Peace, Unity, and Regional Integration”, will take place at Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State. Organized by Skeb Sports on behalf of the NEDC, the tournament aims to strengthen unity and collaboration among youths across the sixteen local government councils of Taraba and the Yangtu Special Development Area.
Dr. Timothy shared that the tournament will feature a variety of sports, including basketball, lawn tennis, athletics, table tennis, and football. He highlighted that the event aligns with the mission of fostering regional harmony through sports. “Our goal is to bring youths together, promoting peace and unity across the North East region,” he stated.

Over 300 athletes are expected to participate, with provisions for accommodation, sports kits, and meals for both athletes and officials. Expressing his excitement, Dr. Timothy envisioned a “glorious outing” for the schools competing in the tournament.
Some participating athletes expressed hope for a fair competition and an inclusive platform, regardless of their geographical backgrounds.
The 2024 NEDC Secondary Schools Sports Tournament promises to be a landmark event, with a lasting impact on youth sports and regional solidarity in Taraba and beyond.
