About 3,000 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, defected to the opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in ldembia, Ezza south Local government area of Ebonyi state.

The group of defectors led by Hon. Nweke Joe was received by the Ebonyi state APGA gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general elections, Prof. Benard Ifeanyi Odoh and the party’s senatorial candidate for Ebonyi central zone, senator Emmanuel Onwe, were emphatic on their stand that they defection was borne out of acceptance and love for the Caliber of people standing election under the flag of APGA.

“We welcome with open arms these about three thousand patriots who, tired and aggrieved with the despotic, noncordant, nonchalant, anti-people and repressive government of the day took the bold step towards a path and a party that will ensure a better, brighter and greater future for all Ebonyians.

The defectors highlighted the antecedents of Prof. Benard Odoh and Senator Emmanuel Onwe as reason for their defection.

Odoh said: “Today you chose the interest of the people over your personal interest. I want to tell you that what you have done is not only historic but symbolic of the movement our cause has become. Similar defections into our camp have continued to take place ever since we kick-started this rescue mission.

“People like you, patriotic Ebonyians like you, continue to flock into our fold. The enthusiasm and energy baffles the naysayers. But we’re not swayed. We can see Ebonyians taking a leap into a future that works, a future that’s guaranteed by our past records. With the many joining and expressing willingness to join us, it could be seen clearly that victory awaits us.”

“Senator Onwe who would be representing the people of Ebonyi Central at the Nigerian Senate by the summer of 2023 stop in no glossed terms depicting the defection of the former members of the APC as the final straw that would begin the mass exodus from the APC, PDP and others into the APGA and ultimately culminate in victory for our great party.

Receiving them, the Ezza South LGA chairman of party, Hon. Aleke Ernest, assured them that they had made the right decision.

He stated that not only would APGA win the next election across Ebonyi State but the party would provide a level playing field for all and deliver dividends of democracy to the people who are in dire need of good governance.
