Two suspects arrested in connection to the murder of Justice Azuka, the late lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, have reportedly escaped from police custody.
This was made known by the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Tuesday in Awka, the state capital.
Ikenga said the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has deployed intelligence and operational teams to track down and re-arrest the fleeing suspects.
He has also ordered disciplinary action against any officer, found negligent in the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were assisting police officers in an operation to apprehend a receiver of stolen goods and recover vehicles used by the criminal gang.

While the operation led to the arrest of the alleged receiver and the recovery of two stolen vehicles, the two suspects managed to escape.

“He has also directed disciplinary action against any officers found culpable.”
Orutugu assured the public that the police are intensifying efforts to recapture the suspects and bring them to justice.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of residents in the state.
