Two individuals suspected to be members of rival cult groups, have been killed in separate locations within Ughelli metropolis, following a resurgence of clashes between opposing factions in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Reports indicate that the conflict stemmed from a dispute between two women, allegedly over shop rent at Up Agbarho.

The altercation soon escalated, drawing in their male counterparts, who belong to rival cult groups. The confrontation quickly turned violent, leading to fatal consequences.

One of the victims, identified as Oghenero Okpos, was attacked and killed on Sunday night at a drinking joint in Sadjere Street.

According to witnesses, he was attempting to flee upon realizing that the group he encountered was heavily armed. However, he was overpowered, and his throat was slit, killing him instantly.

The second victim, whose identity remains unknown, was murdered in Uduere Street in Otovwodo community.

Sources revealed that he had recently reported threats to his life, and that of his family to the police, but was tragically killed same Sunday night.

A resident at the scene recounted the distressing moment, saying, “Oghenero gave me money to buy this cigarette, and I hadn’t even finished smoking when we heard someone had been killed—only to discover it was my brother.”

When newsmen visited the area on Monday, residents were seen in clusters, discussing the shocking event.

Meanwhile, police authorities have deployed three patrol vans to the locations to evacuate the bodies, and commence an investigation.
