On June 16, 2025, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a Federal High Court judge, Justice P. I. Ajoku, handed down prison sentences to two individuals, Glory Okwor Ebube and Harrison Uzorchukwu Emmanuel, for committing fraud online by impersonating American socialite, Kim Kardashian.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted both individuals on separate charges, related to impersonation and scams that tricked people into giving them money.
Ebube was accused of pretending to be the famous celebrity, Kim Kardashian.
In February 2024, he tricked people into transferring $2,000 through his Telegram account, knowing fully well he was not who he claimed to be.
Emmanuel, on the other hand, scammed a woman, named Deborah Teaque in March 2025, convincing her to invest $1,000 in a fake bitcoin opportunity.
Both men pleaded guilty when the charges were read in court.

The prosecuting lawyers presented evidence against them and urged the judge to impose a strict penalty.
Meanwhile, the defense attorneys argued for leniency, asking the court to show mercy because this was their first offense.
Justice Ajoku sentenced both men to 30 months in prison or a fine of N200,000 each.
Additionally, they lost a Toyota Corolla car and two iPhones that were seized during their arrest.
Their legal troubles started when they were caught in Port Harcourt in April 2025, based on reliable information that uncovered their online scam activities.
