Two international organizations, the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD) and the International Institute of Experts on Political Economy and Administration (IIEPEA), have called for the immediate reassignment of Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence.

This request was made during a press conference held in Abuja on Monday.

The organizations stated that Matawalle’s removal from the Defence Ministry is essential to eliminate what they termed internal barriers hindering Nigeria’s efforts against banditry and terrorism.

At the event, UN-WCD Secretary General, Tunji John Asaolu presented a report assessing Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism.

He commended the strengthening military collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, noting that their joint operations have been effective and well-coordinated.

He mentioned that this partnership has contributed to weakening terrorist groups in various regions of the country. However, he cautioned that terrorism has not been completely eradicated, citing recent attacks as evidence.

Asaolu pointed to the bandit attack in Kasuwan-Daji, Niger State, where more than 30 individuals were reportedly killed, as an indication that Nigeria’s security framework still requires urgent enhancement.

He acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address insecurity but emphasized that officials facing serious allegations should not hold sensitive positions.

The diplomat warned that allowing such individuals to remain in office could undermine public trust and weaken security operations.

He asserted that redeploying Matawalle would help restore confidence, accountability, and effectiveness within the Defence Ministry.

He urged Tinubu to take prompt action, stating that this decision would demonstrate a strong commitment to national security and good governance.
