A total of 141 Nigerians have been apprehended in Ghana for their suspected involvement in cybercrimes, which include mobile money fraud, romance scams, sextortion, and business email compromise schemes.

The arrests took place in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025, during a coordinated intelligence operation in the Lashibi and Tabora neighborhoods of Accra.

The operation was executed by the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana in partnership with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

Samul Nartey George, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, announced that 100 suspects were detained in Tabora, while 41 were arrested in Lashibi, all believed to be Nigerian nationals.

The security agencies also seized 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones that are suspected to have been used in cyber-related financial crimes.

Additionally, a Ghanaian landlord who allegedly housed around 100 of the suspects was also taken into custody.

The suspects are accused of engaging in various criminal activities, including mobile money fraud, romance scams, sextortion, business email compromise, and wire fraud.

The statement emphasized that landlords have a responsibility to ensure their properties are not used to facilitate criminal activities.

Forensic analysis of the seized devices is currently underway, and those found guilty will be processed according to Ghanaian law.

The public is encouraged to stay alert, report any suspicious online activities, and support national efforts to combat cybercrime.
