Families of policemen who died in active service in Akwa Ibom State Police Command have received more than N57m as welfare package for the deceased officers.
Presenting the cheques to families of the beneficiaries, the Inspector General of Police(IGP) assured men of the Police Force of improved welfare packages under his administration.
In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) in Akwa Ibom State, SP Odiko Mcdon made available to newsmen in Uyo on Thursday he stated that the amount received was claims in the Group Life Assurance Scheme for 2020/ 2021.
The statement reads in parts: “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, has assured Officers and Men of the Nigeria Police Force, of better welfare packages under his watch.
“The IGP gave the assurance while presenting cheques worth Fifty-seven million, seventy thousand, six hundred and eighty-two naira, forty-seven kobo to fourteen (14) families of deceased Police Officers serving in Akwa Ibom State Police Command, as payment for claims in the Police Group Life Assurance Scheme for 2020/2021.”

He said the Inspector General of Police, who was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Naziru Abdulmajid, has condoled with the families of the fallen heroes and advised them to use the money judiciously.
He, therefore, assured those yet to receive their cheques to be patient as the money are being released in tranches and will soon get to them.
