The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. Nweze David Umahi CON, has partnered with the Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Nigeria. The partnership aims to enhance project monitoring and introduce an effective feedback mechanism to fast-track road infrastructure delivery nationwide.
Speaking during the forum’s courtesy visit at the Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja, on May 6, 2025, Umahi highlighted the transformative impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s administration, especially in the works sector. He described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a game-changer for Nigeria’s economic recovery, praising the President’s courage in implementing bold reforms like the removal of fuel subsidy, floating of the naira, and promotion of local content.
“President Tinubu inherited an economy in critical condition, on oxygen and he revived it. Today, the economy is stable and improving. Without the removal of fuel subsidy, Nigeria would have been in deeper crisis,” Umahi said. “The floating of the naira has brought stabilization, and food prices are beginning to drop. For the first time during a Muslim festival, food prices declined, that’s a testament to the President’s sound economic policies.”
The Minister emphasized the critical role of infrastructure in national development, noting that road construction, bridges, and other major projects are central to growing the nation’s GDP. He assured that the Ministry of Works will continue to pursue policies that promote accountability, local content, and citizen participation in governance. “President Tinubu has directed that materials which can be locally sourced should no longer be imported. This is about job creation, self-sufficiency, and strengthening our local industries.”

Umahi lauded the Forum of APC State Chairmen, the National Working Committee, and APC Governors for backing the administration’s reforms. He urged them to act as on-ground monitors of road projects, empowering them to question contractors and ensure high-quality execution. “This administration is building with the people, not just for the people. Contractors must now be accountable to both the government and the communities.”
In his address, APC Cross River State Chairman and spokesman for the forum, Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq, praised the Minister’s professional prowess and transformative leadership. “This visit is a solidarity mission to thank you for shining light on what was once darkness in our road infrastructure. Your passion and intellect are evident in the visible transformation under your watch,” he said. He pledged the Chairmen’s readiness to serve as volunteer supervisors, ensuring timely and quality delivery of projects.
“We are not just political leaders; we are ready to be field agents for the Renewed Hope Agenda. When projects delay or underperform, we will take action. Our presence on the ground will be your eyes and ears.”
The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt Hon. Muhammad Bello Goronyo, Esq, expressed gratitude to the visiting Chairmen, describing Umahi as a patriotic expert whose dedication is moving Nigeria forward. He urged party leaders to continue championing the Renewed Hope mission and help strengthen the nation’s infrastructure backbone.
