Police respond to viral video of woman arrested for indecent dressing in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has responded to a viral video allegedly showing a woman being harassed by police officers who accused her of indecent dressing.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, said the viral video doesn’t contain sufficient footage to show that police officers attempted to arrest the woman solely for dressing indecently.

In the viral video, the footage appears to show a police officer detaining the woman allegedly due to her outfit, which some viewers interpreted as a case of “indecent dressing.”

The woman dressed in a fitted black top and white shorts is seen being pushed into a police van by an officer.

Additionally, the video captures the woman’s friend, who is similarly outfitted in a shirt and shorts, actively trying to intervene and dissuade the police officer from carrying out the arrest.

Responding to the public outcry, Edafe took to his X account to clarify the situation.

He asserted that the woman was not arrested solely for her mode of dressing, emphasizing that the video does not provide concrete evidence supporting such a claim.

“There is no basis to assume that this incident is a result of indecent dressing. We should consider the bigger picture. Why wasn’t the other lady harassed?

“Is there any significant difference in their attire?’’ he questioned, attempting to call attention to the inconsistencies within the narrative surrounding the viral video.
