Minister hails Super Falcons’ ‘historic’ 10th WAFCON victory

The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has hailed the Super Falcons for their historic victory at the African Women Cup of Nations, describing the team’s triumph as “historic,” emphasizing it as a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of Nigerian women.

The Nigerian women’s national football team secured their 10th WAFCON title on Saturday evening with a hard-fought victory against the host nation, Morocco, in Rabat, a performance the minister described as monumental.

“This victory transcends the game; it symbolizes the strength, discipline, and indomitable spirit of Nigerian women,” the minister stated in a release signed by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, on Saturday night.

“The Super Falcons have once again demonstrated that when Nigerian women take the lead, they inspire the nation and shine on the global stage,” she added.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim also commended the team’s resilience, teamwork, and composure under pressure, calling their performance “a source of national pride and a beacon of hope for girls throughout the country.”

She congratulated President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their exceptional support of the team and the broader Nigerian sports community under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“As minister of women affairs, I am incredibly proud. Tonight, every Nigerian girl sees her dreams reflected in your victory. You have not only won a trophy but also uplifted spirits,” the statement continued.

The minister reiterated the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs’ dedication to implementing policies and programs that empower women and girls, not just in sports but across all sectors.

The 2025 WAFCON title marks the Super Falcons’ 10th continental championship, reinforcing their position as the most successful women’s football team in Africa.
