Court rules on Mohbad father's case against Naira Marley, Sam Larry on July 2
The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has fixed a ruling for July 2, 2025, on the suit filed by Mr. Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer, Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba.

Mr. Aloba is seeking to challenge a decision made by the Lagos State director of public prosecutions, which cleared music promoter, Sam Larry, and artist, Naira Marley, of any connection to Mohbad’s death.

During a recent hearing, Justice Taiwo Olatokun listened to arguments from the lawyers representing both sides.

The lawyer for Mr. Aloba, Wahab Shittu, argued that the DPP’s decision to let the suspects go was made too soon and interfered with an ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.

He insisted that the DPP should have waited for the coroner’s inquest before making a decision.

Responding, a legal officer with the DPP’s office, Ayinde Ibrahim, explained that the suspects were not officially cleared of charges, but were released based on the information available at the time.

He added that the DPP’s team had been involved in the coroner’s hearings, and their conclusion followed standard legal practices.

Ibrahim emphasised that since the coroner had not yet issued a final verdict regarding the suspects, the decision to release them did not mean they were innocent.
