Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone urgent abdominal surgery following a serious injury sustained during a Premier League match against Leicester last Sunday.
Awoniyi collided with a post in the 88th minute while trying to connect with a cross from Anthony Elanga.
Despite receiving initial on-field treatment and continuing briefly, he visibly struggled post-injury.
Nottingham Forest confirmed his surgery in a statement and expressed well wishes for his recovery.
Awoniyi, who recently joined Forest from Union Berlin, had only been on the pitch for a few minutes as a late substitute before the incident.

The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, voiced frustration over the handling of Awoniyi’s injury by the medical staff, showcasing the club’s dedication and concern for its players.
Awoniyi, formerly with Liverpool, has scored one goal for Forest this season in the Premier League.
