Yobe State has granted pardon to 30 inmates held in various correctional facilities across the state for different offences.
Chief Information Officer of the Ministry for Justice Yobe State, Alhassan Sule Mamudo, confirmed the development in Damaturu, stating that the pardon was based on the recommendation of the state’s Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
The council is led by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Saleh Samanja.

Mamudo explained that before the release of the inmates, the council visited correctional facilities in Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashu’a to assess and identify inmates eligible for clemency.
He explained that the periodic release of inmates with minor offences or those given the option of fines is part of the state’s strategy to decongest correctional centers.
“This initiative aligns with Yobe State’s commitment to justice reform and easing the burden on correctional facilities, while offering deserving inmates a second chance at reintegration into society,” the statement said.
