Wike plans major reorganization to FCT transportation

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced new plans to improve transportation in the FCT, focusing on safety and comfort for all travelers.

This announcement came after he visited two newly completed bus and taxi terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi. These terminals are set to be inaugurated soon in celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office. Wike also checked the finished access road to Gishiri District, which is ready for its own inauguration.

Wike emphasized that significant changes are on the way for the transportation system in the FCT. A committee is already busy working on these reforms, which are expected to be finalized before the terminals open.

He explained that part of these changes will include better monitoring of the taxi business, including setting specific colors for taxis to help with identification in case of any incidents. “We are committed to enhancing our transportation system and ensuring it is safe for everyone,” he assured.

Additionally, Wike mentioned that the FCT Administration aims to remove many roadside motor parks to improve traffic flow.

While inspecting the projects, he expressed satisfaction with their completion but noted a few areas that may need adjustments. He praised the contractor for their efforts and reiterated his support for local contractors, encouraging them to deliver high-quality work for Nigerians.

The Kugbo and Mabushi bus and taxi terminals are part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the FCT’s transportation system. While these two are ready for use, another terminal in the central area is still being built. Wike also revealed plans to construct two more terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada.
