Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced his intention to lead President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign for the upcoming 2027 elections.
His announcement comes as a direct response to critics who question his allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), especially given his past affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During a media briefing held in Abuja on Monday, June 2, Wike asserted his commitment to the APC and its leadership.
He stated that “I have told you this before, is it because I am in Asiwaju’s presidency? Are you not aware that I will lead his campaign in Rivers State? You want me to say no?”

His remarks underscore his determination to unify party efforts and refute doubts regarding his loyalty.
Wike also forecasted a remarkable turnaround for Tinubu in the FCT, where the president’s performance in the 2023 elections was notably lackluster, receiving less than 10 percent of the votes cast.
“Are you not aware that he did not get up to 10 percent here in the FCT? But he will win here. Are you not aware?
“Stop asking me questions, you know. Of course, you know. Is that hidden?” he confidently declared, suggesting that strategic efforts would lead to a more favorable outcome in the upcoming elections.
