Vanguard award excites Gov. Diri
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed appreciation to the management of Vanguard Newspapers for nominating him for the award of the Newspaper Personality of the year.

Speaking after receiving the nomination letter for the award in Government House, Yenagoa, Gov. Diri lauded Vanguard’s thoroughness in its selection process.

He, however, noted that newspaper awards had been bastardised in the country, a reason he was circumspect in considering such nominations.

His words: “The truth is that most of these awards have been bastardised. But the Vanguard award delights us and it is commendable considering that you did not approach us before nominating me.

“No matter what people say, there are those who still see what we are doing. We feel very encouraged with this award.“

Bayelsa governor was nominated in the Good Governance category to be presented during a ceremony at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The newspaper said Governor Diri merited his nomination for the prestigious award based on his noteworthy performance in promoting peace, stability and development in Bayelsa.
