A tragic incident unfolded in Ikorodu, Lagos, where 19-year-old Opesusi Timilehin committed suicide after becoming overwhelmed by her UTME score.

In a state of distress, she ingested a poisonous substance known as ‘Push Out’ and later sought help from her sister, requesting palm oil.

Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and while being rushed to Kolak Hospital, she confessed to the poisoning.

She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In a heartbreaking twist, just 30 minutes after her death, she received a provisional admission offer from JAMB to study microbiology, the very course she had applied for.

Timilehin, who had previously taken the UTME in 2024, was disheartened when her score dropped to 190 in 2025.

Neighbours described her as quiet and humble, and many expressed outrage over the systemic delays in the admission process and communication.

Her grieving parents traveled from Abeokuta to recover her remains for burial, mourning the loss of a promising young life.
