Taraba police nab four over murder, car theft, recover stolen vehicle

The Taraba State Police Command has arrested four suspects linked to murder and car theft cases in Wukari Local Government Area, recovering a stolen vehicle in the process.

The Command’s spokesperson, James Lashen Saminu, announced the arrests in a statement issued on Friday in Jalingo.

Saminu disclosed that officers from the Wukari Division apprehended Dauda Usman, 45, and Japhet Shekarau, 30, in connection with the killings of two commercial motorcycle operators.

The victims, identified as Idris Papa from Kano State and Abdulkadir Ahmad from Bauchi State, were murdered on 27th June and 7th May 2025, respectively. After the attacks, the suspects allegedly stole the victims’ motorcycles.

During interrogation, both suspects reportedly confessed to the crimes and named Habibu Dahiru, from Gindin Doruwa in Wukari, as the buyer of the stolen motorcycles. Police, according to the statement, have since arrested Dahiru, and further investigations are underway.

In a separate operation on 8th July, police also recovered a Toyota Camry stolen at gunpoint from Ugwa Solomon Ikechukwu in Port Harcourt on 5th July.

Acting on intelligence provided by Emmanuel Asso, an officer serving in Anambra State, operatives traced the vehicle to the Wukari-Mutum Biyu axis and intercepted it along the Wukari-Bantaje Road. The driver, Umar Jabo, 30, from Jalingo, was arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle.

Commending the officers for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Simon Bretet, reassured residents of the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property.

He urged the public to continue collaborating with the police by providing timely and credible information to help curb crime across the state.
