In response to recent violent clashes that claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of naira, the Taraba State Police Command has convened a high-level peace and reconciliation meeting in Jalingo, the state capital.
The meeting, which took place just days after the unrest, aimed to restore calm and promote lasting peace across affected communities, including Bandawa, Munga Doso, Nguroje Jabu, Wuro Guga, and surrounding areas.
Chaired by the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel S. Bretet, the session brought together key stakeholders such as the local council chairman, traditional rulers, and representatives from various cultural and religious groups.
Participants recounted the trauma experienced during the clashes and raised concerns about the possibility of retaliatory violence. While commending the police for their prompt intervention, they emphasized the need for a sustained security presence to deter further violence.
